What’s in the bag of the 2021 OPEN Championship winner
Quick recap
Champion: Collin Morikawa (–15)
Final round: Morikawa shot a bogey-free 66 (–4) on Sunday to finish at 15‑under 265, winning by two strokes over Spieth.
Wire-to-wire steadiness: He began the day one shot behind Louis Oosthuizen but seized control with birdies at 7, 8, and 9, turning a one-shot deficit into a three-shot lead by the turn
Key moments: A par save at the 10th (celebrated with a fist pump), another clutch birdie on the long 14th, and a crucial par save at 15 kept him ahead as Spieth mounted pressure .
Historic milestones: He became the first player ever to win two different majors on his debut (PGA Championship in 2020 and The Open in 2021), and the first to capture two major titles within his first eight major starts since Bobby Jones in 1926
Runner-Up: Jordan Spieth (–13)
Final round: Spieth also closed with a 66 (–4) and reached –13 overall for sole second place
Strong push: After early bogeys on holes 4 and 6, he responded with an eagle at 7 and consecutive birdies around the turn, bringing him within one shot of Morikawa.
Late fade: Despite the charge, Spieth couldn’t get closer—he parred his final four holes and ultimately lacked the extra breakthrough to tie the leader .
Bryson DeChambeau also later this month on the 17th is competing alongside Brooks Koepka against Rory McIlroy and Scottie Scheffler in a match dubbed "The Match" which will be a highly contested round of golf which sees the LIV breakaway stars vs the current stars of the PGA in what some might call a grudge match.
