Jordan Spieth 2015 Masters - What was in the bag?

Jordan Spieth’s breakthrough at Augusta in 2015 was nothing short of remarkable. At just 21 years old, he became the second-youngest player ever to slip on the Green Jacket – and he did it in style. From the first tee shot on Thursday to the final putt on Sunday, he never let go of the lead. That sort of wire-to-wire dominance is rare, and it left the rest of the field chasing shadows.

What really stood out was the flatstick. Spieth’s Scotty Cameron 009 was red hot all week, bailing him out when he needed a clutch par and piling on the pressure with birdies at every turn. In fact, he rolled in a record 28 birdies across the four days – a stat that still makes you shake your head. His opening 36 holes added up to 130, the lowest halfway total in Masters history at the time.

It was clinical, it was composed, and it was the sort of performance that announced him to the world as a major player.

Driver: Titleist 915D2 (9.5°)

The 915D2 was a forgiving yet powerful driver – perfect for Spieth’s game at the time. It wasn’t about chasing raw distance; it was about control off the tee. With its Active Recoil Channel technology, it reduced spin and gave him a consistent flight. Augusta demands you put the ball in the right spots, and this driver gave him the confidence to do it.

3-Wood: Titleist 915F (15°)

This was his fairway weapon. Augusta’s par 5s reward smart aggression, and Spieth’s 3-wood was central to his strategy. The 915F offered a strong, penetrating flight with just enough launch to hold greens when needed. It gave him options – either lay back safely or take on the risk and go hunting for eagles.

Hybrid: Titleist 915 Hd (20.5°)

Not many 21-year-olds leaned on hybrids as much back then, but Spieth used the 915 Hd brilliantly. With its compact head and low-spinning flight, it was perfect for Augusta’s tighter landing areas. It allowed him to attack from distance without losing accuracy – something that proved vital across all four rounds.

Irons: Titleist AP2 714 (4–9)

Spieth’s iron play was textbook that week. The AP2s combined feel with just enough forgiveness to let him stay aggressive without fear of disaster. From long irons into Augusta’s greens to those precise mid-iron approaches, they gave him the control to set up those endless birdie chances. You don’t make 28 birdies in a week without irons you can trust.

Wedges: Titleist Vokey Design SM5 (46°, 52°, 56°, 60°)

This was where Spieth really separated himself. His wedge game was razor sharp, allowing him to recover when he missed greens and attack flags when the chances came. The Vokey SM5s gave him spin and versatility – from delicate chips to full-blooded approach shots. Around Augusta’s slick, sloping greens, they were worth their weight in gold.

Putter: Scotty Cameron 009 Tour Prototype

The star of the show. Spieth’s Scotty Cameron 009 was nothing short of magical across the four days. It wasn’t just about holing putts; it was about when he holed them. Clutch pars, momentum-shifting birdies – this putter was his best mate that week. The feel, the confidence, and the sheer reliability made it the most important club in his bag.
