On a course where many expected the big hitters to dominate, it was Zach Johnson — steady, precise, and absolutely clinical on the greens — who lifted the Claret Jug after a Monday playoff against Marc Leishman and Louis Oosthuizen.

Johnson’s driver was the Titleist 913D2, paired with a Mitsubishi Rayon Diamana Blue Board 73 X shaft. This model was known for its balance of distance and forgiveness, but more importantly, it was about accuracy. Johnson never relied on brute strength; instead, he trusted this driver to keep him in play and give him chances to attack pins from the fairway.
At St Andrews, with its vast fairways but penal rough and pot bunkers, that ability to stay disciplined off the tee was priceless.

The shafts were equally telling: a Mitsubishi Rayon Diamana Blue S+ 70 TX in the 913Fd for stability and a Fujikura Motore VC 8.0 X in the 913F for a penetrating ball flight. Together, they gave Johnson options to manage the wind and attack longer holes without ever being reckless.
