What’s In The Bag? Billy Horschel - 2024 BMW Championship

Billy Horschel eagled the 18th to beat Rory McIlroy in a thrilling play-off finish to the BMW PGA Championship at Wentworth.

McIlroy, Horschel and Thriston Lawrence all finished tied at the top of the leaderboard on 20 under, with the latter knocked out of contention after finding the water during the first run down 18 in the resulting play-off.

As they replayed the par-five, McIlroy and Horschel this time both found the green in two, but it was the American and 2021 champion who clinched a second victory when holing his long putt for eagle.

Billy Horschel’s weapon off the tee is the Titleist GT3, dialled in at 9° of loft. Paired with a Fujikura Ventus Black 6X shaft, it’s a set-up built for control – keeping the launch and spin down while still giving him all the distance he needs. It’s the sort of driver combo that lets you shape it both ways and hold your line, even when the heat’s on.

Horschel’s Titleist TSi2 3-wood is all about versatility. Paired with a Project X HZURDUS Smoke Black 70 6.5 shaft, it gives him the control to shape trajectory while staying stable enough for those long, precise strikes – whether he’s off the fairway or taking it from the tee. It’s a key weapon for reaching par 5s in two.

For extra distance and height in his long game, Horschel carries a Titleist TSi2 5-wood, equipped with a slightly heavier shaft than his 3-wood. The Project X HZURDUS Smoke Black 80 6.5 shaft delivers lower spin and a penetrating ball flight, providing consistency on long approaches.

Horschel’s iron setup is built for precision with just the right touch of forgiveness. His Titleist T100s in the longer irons (3–5) give him that little extra help on longer approaches, while the Titleist 620 MBs (6–9) deliver pure feel and total control for shaping shots exactly how he wants them. The True Temper Dynamic Gold Tour Issue X100 shafts keep everything stable and consistent, swing after swing.

For his short game, Horschel relies on Vokey SM10 wedges, a staple among professional golfers. His wedge setup is finely tuned with lofts bent to suit his game, ensuring consistent gapping and performance. These wedges, paired with the S400 shafts, give him the control he needs to excel in delicate shots around the green.
