What’s In the Bag: Phil Mickelson

He’s indisputably one of the biggest names in golf, and perhaps THE most high-profile left-handed golfer on the scene. And, with 45 PGA wins currently under his belt Phil Mickelson remains a force to be reckoned with. So, it’s about time we took a look at what he’s carrying in his golf bag.

Mickelson’s background

American golfer Phil Mickelson was born in San Diego on June 16th, 1970. He is otherwise right-handed, and he grew up learning golf from his right-handed dad - mirroring his stance so he became accidentally left-handed! He’s gone on to spend more than 25 consecutive years in the top 50 golfers in the Official World Golf Ranking, with over 700 weeks in the top 10 when he was in his prime.

He continues to be an inspiration to left-handed golfers around the world, showing that it’s entirely possible to play at a professional level whether you’re left or right-handed. And we agree - in fact, we’ve written an entire guide to playing left-handed golf, and we stock an unrivalled range of left-handed golf clubs to suit all ages and stages, including an impressive collection of second hand, left-handed drivers.

Phil Mickelson - what’s in the bag?

So, let’s dive in and take a closer look at the clubs that Mickelson selected to play with at the recent PGA Championship.

Driver - Callaway Paradym Triple Diamond

Phil chose a Callaway Paradym Triple Diamond driver with a loft of 8.5 degrees to tee off - made of forged carbon, it’s the lowest-launching and lowest-spinning Paradym model with a neutral ball flight.

He also used a TaylorMade BRNR Mini Driver (11.5 degrees).

Hybrids - Callaway Apex AW & PING Anser (17 degrees)

Mickelson’s hybrid was a Callaway Apex AW, with excellent forgiveness and high ball speed potential. Stunning at address, it boasts a 96% recommended rate on Callaway’s store - don’t forget to check out our collection of Callaway Hybrids.

He also deployed a PING Anser hybrid at 17 degrees of loft (and we’ve got plenty of amazing second hand PING hybrids, too!).

Irons - Callaway X Forged UT & Callaway X Forged 2013 (6-9)

Sticking with the Callaway brand, Mickelson chose Callaway irons to add to his golf bag - Callaway X Forged UT (22 degrees) and Callaway X Forged 2013 (6-9), with KBS Tour-V 125 shafts.

Wedges - Callaway Jaws Raw

Mickelson’s wedges were, once again Callaway - selecting Callaway Jaws Raw (50-10S, 56-12W) but he added in a PING Eye2 XG (L) with KBS Tour-V shafts - shop for Callaway wedges and bag yourself a bargain.

Putter - Odyssey ‘Phil Mickelson’ prototype

Mickelson’s steel putter was his very own Odyssey model, which has an aluminium plug in the heel, with a tungsten plug in the tow that moves the centre of gravity to the centre of the putter. Currently still a prototype, we expect sales of this putter to explode once it hits the market.
