SIM2 and SIM2 Max Drivers
TaylorMade’s SIM2 driver line, launched in early 2021, redefined stability and distance through its Forged Ring Construction. A continuous 60X carbon‑fibre crown is precisely bonded to a forged aluminium chassis and rear steel sole plate, creating an ultra‑rigid frame that maximises energy transfer at impact. The result is a driver that marries explosive ball speed with remarkably consistent performance.
The SIM2 Max variant builds upon this foundation by redistributing mass to widen the sweet spot. A heavier steel back weight increases the moment of inertia, enhancing resistance to twisting on off‑centre strikes. Despite this added forgiveness, the head profile remains compact enough to inspire confidence at address, blending a game‑improvement feel with tour‑worthy aesthetics.
Both models employ a high‑strength titanium face insert with Precision‑Forged Speed Pocket™ technology. This slot beneath the sole supports face flex on low strikes, preserving ball speed and launch. Yet while the standard SIM2 emphasises workability and a lower, more penetrating flight, the SIM2 Max prioritises launch height and ease of use.
Across a broad spectrum of swing speeds, these drivers speak the same language of speed, stability and refined acoustics. Subtle visual cues including a minimalist alignment aid and a matte finish ensure that attention remains on the target line, not on distractions at address.

Design and Technology
Forged Ring Construction
At the heart of both SIM2 and SIM2 Max is Forged Ring Construction. The 60X carbon crown bonds seamlessly to a 5‑step forged aluminium ring, which in turn connects to a rear steel sole plate. This three‑material assembly forms an ultra‑rigid chassis that minimises energy loss at impact, driving increased ball speeds even on marginal strikes.
Precision‑Forged Speed Pocket™
Precision‑Forged Speed Pocket™ technology spans the sole beneath the face, allowing the titanium insert to flex freely on low‑face impacts. In both models, this pocket delivers consistently high ball speeds on toe and heel mishits alike. The face insert itself is milled to exacting tolerances, ensuring uniform thickness and optimised coefficient of restitution across the entire hitting surface.
Mass Redistribution in SIM2 Max
SIM2 Max sets itself apart with strategic mass redistribution. A heavier steel plate in the rear sole shifts the centre of gravity further back, elevating the moment of inertia and fortifying forgiveness. This adjustment raises launch angle slightly, making it easier to achieve ideal trajectory and carry distances without sacrificing face‑speed performance.
Ultralight™ Loft Sleeve Adjustability
Adjustability is provided via an Ultralight™ 4° loft sleeve. By rotating the hosel, loft and lie can be fine‑tuned to suit individual launch conditions and swing characteristics. This simple, reliable mechanism ensures that both SIM2 and SIM2 Max can be tailored for launch angle and spin rate without the complexity of moveable weights.

On‑Course Performance
Trajectory and Spin
Ball flight generated by the SIM2 driver tends to sit on the lower side of mid‑trajectory, offering a penetrating, bore‑through flight that cuts through wind and holds fairways. Spin rates remain moderate, translating into controlled roll after landing. The SIM2 Max delivers a noticeably higher, more towering flight. The rear‑ward mass placement induces a high launch, while the face and Speed Pocket ensure that off‑centre strikes maintain both height and distance.
Feedback and Turf Interaction
Feedback through the shaft has been finely tuned. Both models produce a muted thud on centre strikes, rewarding solid contact without harsh vibrations. Off‑centre hits feel smoother than in previous generations, thanks to the Forged Ring’s rigidity and the dampening effect of the carbon crown. Turf interaction feels seamless, whether from a tight fairway lie or a slightly uneven tee shot.
Workability vs Forgiveness
Workability varies between the two. The SIM2 permits more nuanced shot shaping, ideal for experienced players who require trajectory control. Conversely, the SIM2 Max errs on the side of stability, sacrificing some shot‑shaping potential for enhanced forgiveness and ease of launch. Together, these characteristics offer an appealing choice based on individual play style and performance goals.
