Hybrid and Utility Clubs: FAQs

What are hybrid golf clubs used for?
They’re a versatile club that golfers can use on the fairway, the rough or even off the tee. You might also see them referred to as ‘rescue’ clubs, because they’re great for getting out of a tight situation.
What are the key features of a hybrid golf club?
The main aim of a hybrid is to give you the best of both worlds by bridging the gap between the loft of your irons and fairways. It’s more forgiving than longer irons which are harder to hit, so most golfers like to carry one with them on every game. Check out our guide to buying a hybrid golf club to learn more.
Is a 7-hybrid the same as a 7-iron?
Hybrids are a great alternative to irons and fairways, and you can follow the numbering system on irons to select your hybrid. So, a 7-hybrid could replace a 7-iron, a 5-hybrid could replace a 5-iron… and so on.
How do I choose the right hybrid golf club for me?
It’s a good idea to have an understanding of the current distance the gaps in your golf bag will deliver, so you know what gap you need to fill. If you’re in any doubt at all it’s always best to consult an expert - and we are always happy to help and answer any questions you may have.
