What’s in the Bag? Zach Johnson’s 2015 Open Championship Win
Let’s take a closer look at the Titleist-heavy setup and the SeeMore putter that carried him to victory at the Home of Golf.
Driver: Titleist 913D2 (8.5°)

Driver: Titleist 913D2 (8.5°)
Johnson’s driver was the Titleist 913D2, paired with a Mitsubishi Rayon Diamana Blue Board 73 X shaft. This model was known for its balance of distance and forgiveness, but more importantly, it was about accuracy. Johnson never relied on brute strength; instead, he trusted this driver to keep him in play and give him chances to attack pins from the fairway.
At St Andrews, with its vast fairways but penal rough and pot bunkers, that ability to stay disciplined off the tee was priceless.
Fairway Woods: Titleist 913Fd (15°) & 913F (17°)

Fairway Woods: Titleist 913Fd (15°) & 913F (17°)
Johnson carried two fairway woods — the Titleist 913Fd at 15° and the 913F at 17°. The Fd was built for players who liked a slightly deeper face and more control off the tee, while the standard F brought versatility from the fairway.
The shafts were equally telling: a Mitsubishi Rayon Diamana Blue S+ 70 TX in the 913Fd for stability and a Fujikura Motore VC 8.0 X in the 913F for a penetrating ball flight. Together, they gave Johnson options to manage the wind and attack longer holes without ever being reckless.
Utility Iron: Titleist 712U (3)

For his long iron, Johnson trusted the Titleist 712U utility iron (3), built with a Mitsubishi Rayon Fubuki AX H500 X shaft. It offered a reliable, lower-flight option that was perfect for links golf when keeping the ball under the wind mattered most.
Irons: Titleist 714 AP1/AP2 Combo (4–9)

From 4-iron down, he used a split set — the Titleist 714 AP1 (4-iron) for forgiveness and launch, and the 714 AP2s (5–9) for precision and workability. That mix said everything about his game: practical where it needed to be, surgical when control was the priority.
Titleist Vokey SM4 (48°, 54°, 60°)

Wedge: Titleist Vokey SM4 (48°, 54°, 60°)
Around the greens, Johnson relied on the Titleist Vokey Design SM4 wedges, fitted with True Temper Dynamic Gold Tour Issue S400 shafts. Known for their classic spin and versatility, the SM4s gave him control from tight links turf and helped him navigate St Andrews’ tricky bunkers.
It was these wedges — and his nerve with them — that set up many of the par saves and birdie looks that kept him in contention all week.
Putter: SeeMore FGP

Putter: SeeMore FGP
The real star of Johnson’s bag that week was his SeeMore FGP putter. A relatively unglamorous choice compared to the high-profile Scotty Camerons or Odysseys in most tour bags, it’s a putter built for alignment and repeatable strokes.
And repeat he did. Johnson holed clutch putts across all four days, and in the playoff, his putter was the difference. At a major where so many contenders stumbled under pressure, his SeeMore was steady as a rock.
For modern golfers, the lesson is clear: it’s not always about the flashiest gear or the longest drives. Sometimes, it’s about finding clubs that fit your game.
