World Cup WITBs: Group C & D

Scotland and finishing top of a World Cup group aren't phrases usually found in the same sentence. As Scottish football fans, we're more accustomed to calculators coming out before the final group game and debating whether four points might somehow be enough.

But this isn't football.

This is golf.

And when the conversation turns to the best golfer in Group C, Scotland suddenly has a genuine contender. Bob MacIntyre arrives as the highest-ranked player in the group and gives the Scots a rare opportunity to look down the table rather than up it.

Standing in his way are Brazil's Fred Biondi, Morocco's Adam Bresnu and Haiti, who currently have no ranked representative in the field. Meanwhile, Group D features tournament heavyweight Scottie Scheffler, Australia's Min Woo Lee, Paraguay's Fabrizio Zanotti and Türkiye's Leon Açikalin.

So while we'll leave the football predictions to someone else, we're backing Scotland to make it out of this group.

Here's a look at the bags representing Groups C and D in our World Cup WITBs series.

Group C - Scotland

Representative: Bob MacIntyre (PGA Tour)
OWGR: 17

If Scotland is going to make a run in our World Cup WITBs tournament, Bob MacIntyre will be leading the charge. The Oban native has established himself as one of Europe's top players and arrives as the highest-ranked golfer in Group C. His bag is a fascinating mix of old and new, featuring the latest Titleist GT2 driver alongside a TaylorMade AeroBurner fairway wood that continues to earn its place despite being over a decade old.

Group C - Brazil

Representative: Fred Biondi (DP World Tour)
OWGR: 989

Brazil's representative in Group C is Fred Biondi, a player who made history as one of the country's most successful collegiate golfers before progressing into the professional ranks. Now competing professionally, Biondi relies on a predominantly Callaway setup throughout the bag, pairing forgiving metalwoods with a precision-focused iron and wedge setup.

Morocco's representative is amateur golfer Adam Bresnu, who has earned Official World Golf Ranking points through amateur and collegiate competition.

Unfortunately, Bresnu's equipment setup is not publicly available, meaning a verified What's In The Bag feature cannot currently be produced.

Group C - Haiti

At the time of writing, Haiti does not currently have a golfer with an Official World Golf Ranking or an established representative competing on one of the game's major professional tours.

As a result, there is no player available to feature in this edition of World Cup WITBs. With golf continuing to expand globally, future editions may well see Haiti represented on golf's biggest stages.

Group C Standings

Position Nation Golfer OWGR
1 Scotland Bob MacIntyre 17
2 Brazil Fred Biondi 989
3 Morocco Adam Bresnu 1142
4 Haiti No ranked representative N/A
For once, Scotland finds itself looking down on the rest of the group rather than nervously checking results elsewhere. Bob MacIntyre comfortably leads the way on world ranking and arrives with genuine PGA Tour pedigree, while Brazil's Fred Biondi brings a strong all-Callaway setup to the contest. Morocco's Adam Bresnu continues his development through the amateur ranks, while Haiti currently has no ranked representative. We'll avoid booking the knockout stages just yet, but Group C looks about as favourable as Scotland could have hoped for.

Group D - USA

Representative: Scottie Scheffler (PGA Tour)
 OWGR: 1

The United States arrives in Group D with the ultimate trump card: the world number one. Scottie Scheffler has spent the last few seasons setting the standard in men's professional golf, combining elite ball-striking with remarkable consistency. Unsurprisingly, he enters this World Cup WITBs tournament as one of the favourites to lead his nation deep into the competition.

Group D - Australia

Representative: Min Woo Lee (PGA Tour)

If Scottie Scheffler is the heavyweight of Group D, Min Woo Lee is the player nobody wants to underestimate. The Australian has become one of the most exciting players in world golf thanks to his aggressive style, incredible speed off the tee and growing success on the PGA Tour. His bag reflects that modern approach, featuring a blend of Callaway's latest metalwoods and a precision-focused iron setup.

Group D Standings

Position Nation Golfer OWGR
1 United States Scottie Scheffler 1
2 Australia Min Woo Lee 31
3 Paraguay Fabrizio Zanotti 459
4 Türkiye Leon Açikalin 2036
Group D is, quite frankly, unfair. Any group containing the world number one automatically becomes the group nobody else wants to be drawn into, and Scottie Scheffler's presence gives the United States a commanding advantage on paper. Australia has a genuine star of its own in Min Woo Lee, whose explosive style and world-class talent make him one of the most dangerous players in the entire tournament. Paraguay's Fabrizio Zanotti brings years of DP World Tour experience to the competition, while Türkiye faces an uphill battle against three accomplished golfing nations.

Group C vs Group D

Scotland may have reason for optimism in Group C, but things get considerably more difficult when looking across at Group D. While Bob MacIntyre's world ranking puts him firmly among the elite players in the competition, Scottie Scheffler remains the benchmark for everyone else. Add in Min Woo Lee and experienced DP World Tour campaigner Fabrizio Zanotti, and Group D suddenly looks like one of the strongest groups in the tournament.

From an equipment perspective, Group D is dominated by Callaway. Both Min Woo Lee and Fabrizio Zanotti rely heavily on Callaway throughout their bags, while Scheffler continues to fly the flag for TaylorMade. Meanwhile, Group C offers a fascinating contrast, with MacIntyre's unique blend of Titleist and TaylorMade equipment standing out among the field.

If Scotland can top Group C, they'll have done their part. The problem is that the road beyond the group stage may well run straight through the world number one.
